Easily repairable headphone Fairbuds XL launched for €249

Fairphone, a company that specializes in producing ethical and sustainable smartphones, has launched easily repairable, over-the-ear headphones Fairbuds XL. The Amsterdam-based company has set the price of its latest device at €249.

 

 

 

The company says that Fairbuds XL is “good for the planet, easy on your wallet” as the device come together from 11 modular spare parts that help you to easily repair the headphone yourself. You can replace parts like ear cushions and even the battery, among others. The company says that the device’s battery could reach 80% of its maintained capacity after 500 charging cycles. Meaning, you would notice reduced battery life after a year and need a replacement.

 

Meanwhile, with active noise cancellation turned on, the headphones can offer up to 26 hours of music time. The device can last up to 30 hours with ANC turned off. Fairbuds XL comes with an 800mAh battery. However, the device lacks wireless charging.

 

Talking about other technical specifications, the headphones feature a 40mm dynamic driver with a frequency response range of 20Hz – 20KHz. The Fairbuds XL is rated IP54 for light rain and sweat resistance. Though the Fairbuds XL does not have a 3.5mm headphone jack, it can be connected to a smartphone or a laptop via a USB Type-C port. The headphones also support Bluetooth 5.1 with a range of 10 meters. The device offers dual-point connection, and further support for codecs like AAC, SBC, and aptX HD.

 

The device can also be connected to smart assistants like Google Assistant, Amazon Alexa, and Apple Siri. To control and configure the headphones and the audio output, you can download the Fairbuds app on both Android and iOS devices. The device is foldable and comes in two color options, green and black.

 

Keeping its core goal of sustainability in mind, Fairphone has made the latest device from 100% recycled aluminum, 100% recycled tin in solder paste, over 80% recycled plastics, and 100% fairtrade gold in the supply chain. The modular and repairable headphone also features 100% vegan leather ear cushions and headbands.
