CyberOne: Xiaomi’s first ever humanoid can understand human emotions

Xiaomi has revealed its first-ever humanoid robot, ‘CyberOne’, that can reportedly understand human emotions! Xiaomi has come up with a humanoid that can interact with humans and is also capable of recognizing individuals, months after introducing the quadruped robot CyberDog at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2022 in February.

During the launch event, CyberOne joined Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun on stage and handed him a flower. It also interacted with Lei Jun and introduced itself.

“CyberOne’s AI and mechanical capabilities are all self-developed by Xiaomi Robotics Lab. We have invested heavily in R&D spanning various areas, including software, hardware, and algorithms innovation,” said Lei Jun.

CyberOne is fitted with advanced legs, has an arm span of 168 cm, similar to humans, and moves with the help of bipedal-motion posture balancing that makes it natural and stable. It supports up to 21 degrees of freedom in motion and has a real-time response speed of 0.5 ms. The humanoid is 177cm tall, weighs around 52kg, and is said to reach a peak torque of up to 300Nm. It can also hold up to 1.5 kilos in weight with a single hand.

Xiaomi claims that the humanoid is capable of perceiving 3D space and has an OLED module to display facial expressions, as per its introductory specifications.

The CyberOne comes with technologies that enable it to recognize 85 types of environmental sounds and 45 classifications of human emotion. Xiaomi equipped its humanoid with an in-house Mi-Sense depth vision module, an AI interaction algorithm, a self-developed MiAI environment semantics recognition engine, and a MiAI vocal emotion identification engine, which allows it to detect happiness, and even comfort the user in times of sadness.

As of now, CyberOne is just a concept, however, Xiaomi says that its technology will also be applied to more and more Xiaomi products in the future. Interestingly, Tesla is also upcoming a humanoid robot this September.
