Nothing Phone (1)

The much-awaited Nothing Phone (1), the company’s first-ever smartphone has been launched on Tuesday in London. The smartphone is likely to be available for sale in India from 7 PM, July 21, 2022, onwards with the 8GB/128GB variant priced at Rs 32,999 as per Flipkart. The 8GB/256GB is priced at Rs 35,999 and the 12GB/256GB is priced at Rs 38,999.

Carl Pei’s Nothing has managed to create hype around the Phone (1) by providing sneak peeks of its unique design and features. In the latest leak, it was confirmed that the smartphone will be using a two-year-old chipset. The phone (1) has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 778G chipset, along with a 4,500mAh battery with 33W wired charging, 15W wireless charging, and 5W reverse wireless charging support.

“We designed Phone (1) as a product we’d be proud to share with friends and family,” said Carl Pei, CEO, and Co-founder of Nothing. “This simple principle helped us wander off the beaten path, tune into our instincts, and create an experience that hopefully marks the start of a change in a stagnant industry.”

The smartphone will come with what the company is calling the “GLYPH Interface” and will sport illuminating LED light strips on the back panel that will light up on notifications, charging, and more. On the front, the smartphone will feature a 6.55” OLED display and HDR10+ with an adaptive 120Hz refresh rate.

Nothing is building more features on top of the Glyph interface, Pei said during the event. Another interesting feature is that you can put the phone (1) to silent by “Flip to Glyph” feature that triggers lights-only notifications by placing Phone (1) with the Glyph Interface face up. The smartphone sports equal-sized bezels on all four sides including the usually thicker chin.

Talking about the camera, the phone (1) has two cameras on the back including a 50MP primary Sony IMX766 sensor with OIS and EIS and another 50MP Samsung JN1 ultrawide sensor. A red LED on the back of the phone lights will light when the recording is on. The phone supports 4K video recording on the phone (1). Interestingly, Pei revealed that the launch event itself is being recorded on the Nothing phone (1).

Nothing claims that the aluminum used in making the frame is 100% recycled while over 50% of the phone’s plastic components are made with bio-based or post-consumer recycled materials. Phone (1) will come in a black and white variant.
