OpenAI’s ChatGPT to get a paid pro version

OpenAI’s ChatGPT is already the talk of the town in the tech world with its capabilities to write essays, emails, poems, and even computer code. Now, OpenAI has signaled that it is working on a paid, pro version of the chatbot. The company has announced on its official Discord server that it’s “starting to think about how to monetize ChatGPT” as one of the ways for ChatGPT to create revenue and support its ongoing development.

“We’re starting to think about how to monetize ChatGPT (early thinking, nothing official to share yet). Our goal is to continue improving and maintaining the service, and monetization is one way we’re considering to ensure its long-term viability. We’re interested in chatting with some folks for ~15 min to get some early feedback. If you’re interested in chatting, please fill out this form (takes ~10 min to fill out),” the company announced.

As per the reports, the premium version of the chatbot will be marketed as ChatGPT Professional. OpenAI has also posted a link on the Discord server, asking people a range of questions including their payment preferences. The waitlist also explains that the premium version will have benefits, such as no “blackout” (i.e. unavailability) windows, no throttling, and an unlimited number of messages with ChatGPT — “at least 2x the regular daily limit.” Those who fill out the waitlist form may be selected to pilot ChatGPT Professional, but the program is in the experimental stages and won’t be made widely available “at this time”, says the company.

As of now, there’s no official announcement regarding the chatbot’s premium version.

OpenAI is already known for its other AI tools such as Dall-E, which is an AI-based text-to-image generator. It recently introduced ChatGPT, which is a clever chatbot that engages users by intuitively responding to queries, writing code, and even poetry. The bot even keeps track of the conversation’s flow and bases its subsequent responses on past queries and answers.
