ISRO’s LVM3
LVM3 was earlier called GSLV Mk III.

Indian Space Research Organization’s heaviest rocket LVM3 will launch 36 broadband satellites of British start-up OneWeb on October 23 from Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Andhra Pradesh’s Sriharikota.

According to a Tweet by ISRO, the launch of ‘LVM3 – M2/OneWeb India-1 Mission’ is scheduled at 12:07 am IST on October 23 (midnight of October 22). “Cryo stage, equipment bay (EB) assembly completed. The Bengaluru-headquartered space organization, earlier this month, said that NewSpace India Ltd. (or NSIL), a central public sector enterprise under the Department of Space and the commercial arm of ISRO, has signed two launch service contracts with Network Access Associated Ltd. (or OneWeb), for launching OneWeb LEO (low earth orbit) broadband communication satellites on-board ISRO’s heaviest launcher LVM3.

Further, it is the first LVM3 dedicated commercial launch on demand through NSIL and with this contract with OneWeb, LVM3 is making its entry into the Global commercial launch service market.

Talking about OneWeb, ISRO said, “OneWeb is a global communications network, powered from space, enabling connectivity for governments, businesses, and communities. It is implementing a constellation of Low Earth Orbit satellites.” India’s Bharti Enterprises is a major investor and shareholder in OneWeb.

Earlier known as Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle (or GSLV) Mk III, the Launch Vehicle Mark 3 is capable of launching a four-tonne class of satellites into a Geosynchronous Transfer Orbit (or GTO). It is configured as a three-stage vehicle with two solid strap-on motors, one liquid core stage and a high thrust cryogenic upper stage.
