Sony’s PS VR2 headset features headset feedback, eye tracking, 3D audio, adaptive triggers, and haptic feedback from the PS VR2 Sense controllers.

Sony’s PlayStation VR2 headset will be launched on February 22, 2023, for $549.99 (approximately Rs 45,000). The company will also launch a PlayStation VR2 Sense controller charging station, designed specifically for the PS VR2 Sense controller, on the same day, said Isabelle Tomatis, Vice President, Brand, Hardware, and Peripherals at Sony Interactive Entertainment. The controller can be bought separately for $49.9 (around Rs 4000).

The PS VR2 box will come with the headset, PS VR2 Sense controllers, and stereo headphones. The latest headset is exclusive to PlayStation 5 that costs Rs 50,000 additionally. On the other hand, the PS VR2 Sense Controller does not require players to connect to a PS5 console and can be charged through a simple click-in design.

The PS VR2 headset features headset feedback, eye tracking, 3D audio, adaptive triggers, and haptic feedback from the PS VR2 Sense controllers for “unique gameplay experiences.” Gamers can experience 4000 x 2040 high dynamic range (or HDR) video format (2000 x 2040 per eye) and up to 120Hz refresh rates.

The upcoming headset also has a field view of approximately 110 degrees, up from its predecessor PS VR’s field view of approximately 100 degrees, which means gamers will have a wider viewing area. More than 20 games will be available at the beginning including ‘Horizon Call of the Mountain’ and ‘Resident Evil Village’.

“We’ve created the PS VR2 headset with comfort in mind, in a slightly slimmer and lighter design compared to our previous headset. We’ve also included an integrated vent for extra airflow, and a lens adjustment dial for a more customized feel,” Sony’s Tomatis added in the blog.

Users can start registering for the device, while pre-orders will begin from November 15 in the U.S., U.K., France, Germany, Belgium, Netherlands, and Luxembourg solely through PlayStation’s online store. The virtual reality headset’s India launch is yet to be confirmed. Sony plans to make 2 million units by March next year, Bloomberg reported; adding that mass production of its VR goggles has begun in September.

The launch of Sony’s VR headset comes nearly a month after Meta unveiled its high-end virtual and mixed reality headset – Quest Pro for $1500 that targets serious and creative working professionals. The much-hyped headset is a milestone in the company’s chief executive officer Mark Zuckerberg’s vision for an immersive digital future.
