Launched in 2012, Tinder is one of the world’s most popular dating apps.
With Valentine’s Day just around the corner, American multinational dating application Tinder on Tuesday announced a slew of new safety features and upgrades to provide a safe space for its users to make meaningful connections. From Incognito mode to Block Profile, here is all you need to know about the new features and enhancements.
Incognito Mode, as the name suggests, allows members to fully hide their profile. Only those liked by the user will see them as their recommendation. The premium feature is only available for Tinder+, Gold, and Premium members.
Block Profile gives users the option to choose who they want to see on the app. Members of the Match Group-backed app can block profiles before matching and when they come as suggestions. The blocked profile will not show up again and is an easy way to avoid seeing a boss or an ex. Block Profile, which the company says will be launched on Android first and then roll out on iOS during the first quarter of 2023, expands on the existing abilities to Block Contacts and blocking following making a report.
Long Press Reporting lets users tap and hold offensive messages to launch the reporting flow directly in the chat. By simplifying this flow, the company hopes more users will report bad behavior and Tinder could then take appropriate action against accounts that violate the Community Guidelines.
Upgrade to existing features like ‘Does This Bother You?’ and ‘Are You Sure?’ has also been announced by the company. While the former encourages users to report inappropriate conversations and take action against any suspicious activity, the latter prompt steps in when Tinder detects harmful language before a message is sent.
Tinder has also partnered with the NO MORE Foundation, an NGO dedicated to ending domestic violence and sexual assault by increasing awareness, to release a series of Healthy Dating Guides. The partnership is claimed to help users to spot red flags and celebrate green flags.
“Every touchpoint in Tinder has been built with safety in mind, and we’ve heard from members that they aren’t always aware of what safety features currently exist, how to use them, or how to approach staying safe when they take a conversation off the app,” said Rory Kozoll, SVP of Product Integrity at Tinder. “To help close this gap, we continually work with expert partners to promote messages about safety and dating, both on and off the app.”
