Twitter on Wednesday announced to discontinue its Newsletter product Revue by January next year. The news comes a few days after the tech giant’s new boss Elon Musk said he is open to the idea of buying Substack, a rival online publishing platform.

“We’ll cut to the chase: from January 18, 2023, it will no longer be possible to access your Revue account. On that date, Revue will shut down and all data will be deleted,” Twitter wrote to Newsletter writers. “This has been a hard decision because we know Revue has a passionate user base, made up of people like you.”

Meanwhile, Revue also intimated about the decision on its website and wrote that users will be able to download their subscriber list, past newsletter issues, and analytics by following the given instructions.

Twitter acquired the Newsletter platform in January 2021 as part of enhancing the Twitter experience for writers everywhere. In a typical Elon Musk fashion, Twitter’s new boss earlier this month replied to a thread started by American conservative political commentator and YouTuber Dave Rubin who wrote that YouTube and Google’s “manipulation for political purposes is FAR worse than Twitter’s.”

In the same thread, Musk replied to another user who suggested he buy Substack. “Maybe buy @SubstackInc , then you would have the information layer with Twitter and the narrative layer,” the user wrote. To this, Musk replied, “I’m open to the idea.”

Substack is an American online platform that lets independent writers and podcasters publish directly to their audience and get paid through subscriptions.
