    Nintendo Switch successor could launch in March 2025, Nikkei says

    Japanese multinational video game company Nintendo could launch the successor of its acclaimed gaming console Nintendo Switch as early as March 2025, media outlet Nikkei reported on Monday. This will be second gaming console in the Switch lineup, first being launched in March 2017.

    Reportedly, the successor of Nintendo Switch console will have some similar specs including the handheld console but will have a bigger display. Market watchers anticipated the roll out some time this year but reportedly the Kyoto, Japan-headquartered company prioritised streamlining the initial sales of the new device.

    Earlier this month, Bloomberg reported Nintendo told gaming publishers that next generation Switch will be delayed until “early” months of 2025. Following the console’s postponed release, Nintendo’s stock fell nearly 5% but were still trading at levels not seen since late 2020, according to a report by Business Insider. The 7-year-old Switch has sold over 139 million units so far, staying a strong seller throughout its lifetime and rivalling and even surpassing the sales of industry giants like Sony PlayStation and Microsoft Xbox.

    Despite being on the market for seven years, Switch continues to receive strong support from developers who are actively releasing new titles. The gaming device offers a unique gaming experience, allowing players to use it both as a handheld device and a home console when docked, contributing to its widespread popularity among gamers of all ages.

    Last week, the company held it first Nintendo Direct of this year where it spotlights a series of Nintendo Switch titles scheduled for release in 2024. Some featured games include Disney Epic Mickey: Rebrushed, World of Goo 2, Penny’s Big Breakaway, Endless Ocean Luminous, Grounded, and Super Monkey Ball Banana Rumble, among others.
