Amazon Prime Video has officially greenlit a second season of the critically acclaimed sci-fi action-comedy series “Fallout.” The show, based on the popular Bethesda Softworks game franchise, has been a major success for the streaming platform, garnering some of the best reviews in Prime Video’s history and ranking among its top three titles to date.
Adapted by showrunners Geneva Robertson-Dworet and Graham Wagner, and produced by Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy, “Fallout” has captivated audiences with its unique blend of humor, action, and post-apocalyptic storytelling. The series is set 200 years after a devastating nuclear war and follows the adventures of three survivors: a naive “vault dweller” played by Ella Purnell, a warrior from the Brotherhood of Steel portrayed by Aaron Clifton Moten, and an undead Ghoul brought to life by Walton Goggins.
Jennifer Salke, head of Amazon MGM Studios, praised the show’s creators and cast for their outstanding work. “Jonah, Lisa, Geneva, and Graham have captivated the world with this ground-breaking, wild ride of a show. The bar was high for lovers of this iconic video game and so far we seem to have exceeded their expectations, while bringing in millions of new fans to the franchise,” she said in a statement.
Salke also expressed gratitude to Nolan, Joy, and Bethesda for bringing the show to Amazon, as well as to Robertson-Dworet and Wagner for joining as showrunners. “We are thrilled to announce season two after only one week out and take viewers even farther into the surreal world of Fallout,” she added.
Production for the second season is expected to shift to California, where the show has been awarded a $25 million tax credit. According to a California Film Commission filing, the budget for the upcoming season is set at $152 million. The first season finale hinted at a possible move to the world of New Vegas, a popular location in the game franchise, sparking excitement among fans.
Nolan and Joy expressed their enthusiasm for the renewal, saying, “Praise be to our insanely brilliant showrunners, Geneva and Graham, to our kick-ass cast, to Todd and James and all the legends at Bethesda, and to Jen, Vernon and the amazing team at Amazon for their incredible support of this show. We can’t wait to blow up the world all over again.”
“Fallout” is produced by Amazon MGM Studios and Kilter Films in association with Bethesda Game Studios and Bethesda Softworks. The series is executive produced by Nolan, Joy, Robertson-Dworet, Wagner, Athena Wickham of Kilter Films, Todd Howard for Bethesda Game Studios, and James Altman for Bethesda Softworks.
As fans eagerly await the second season of “Fallout,” the show’s success serves as a testament to the growing popularity of video game adaptations and the potential for innovative storytelling in the realm of streaming television.
