Twitter boss Elon Musk announced that Twitter’s three-color verification would be launched in a week. This is a re-attempt to provide paid verifications for $7.99 to anyone. There’ll be three types of checkmarks- gold checkmarks for companies, gray for governments, and blue for individuals. Individuals can also qualify for a “secondary tiny logo” denoting they belong to an organization. The company will also manually authenticate all verifications before the new verification system goes live, not specifying what will be done manually, or how much that might delay the whole process.
Musk in his tweet wrote, “Sorry for the delay, we’re tentatively launching Verified on Friday next week. Gold check for companies, grey check for government, blue for individuals (celebrity or not) and all verified accounts will be manually authenticated before check activates. Painful, but necessary.”
Last Monday, Musk tweeted that the company is halting the relaunch of ‘Twitter Blue’ until there is high confidence in “stopping impersonation.” Earlier it was announced that Twitter Blue will be relaunched on November 29. The new Twitter Blue was launched a week after Musk’s takeover earlier this month led to chaos on the platform as both legacy checkmarks and the new Twitter Blue subscriptions were active. Several accounts impersonated other accounts, both with the checkmark.
A user created a fake Nintendo account and posted an image of Mario flipping the bird while some other user impersonated the pharmaceutical company Eli Lilly and posted a tweet saying that insulin is now free. Eventually, Twitter ended up rolling back the feature.
