Twitter on Wednesday suspended an account that tracked CEO Elon Musk’s jet by monitoring the flight’s path. The account, @ElonJet, was being run by a Florida college student named Jack Sweeney since 2020. He is an aviation enthusiast who ran similar “bot” accounts tracking other celebrities’ airplanes. Ironically, just last month, while talking about his “commitment to free speech”, Musk said he would not be banning the account “following his plane” even though he saw it as a personal safety risk. Twitter has now announced that any account sharing someone’s live location will be removed henceforth.
“Well it appears @ElonJet is suspended,” creator Jack Sweeney tweeted from his personal (@JxckSweeney) account. Sweeney’s personal account as well as other Sweeney-run accounts tracking private jets used by Bill Gates, Jeff Bezos, Mark Zuckerberg, and various Russian oligarchs were later suspended by Twitter.
On Wednesday, the account, @ElonJet was back online after being suspended for “violating Twitter rules”. However, an hour later, Musk again suspended the jet-tracking account after imposing new conditions on all of Twitter’s users that the sharing of anyone’s current location was not allowed.

In the following tweet Musk also said legal action is now being taken against Sweeney and others. He wrote, “Last night, car carrying lil X in LA was followed by crazy stalker (thinking it was me), who later blocked car from moving & climbed onto hood. Legal action is being taken against Sweeney & organizations who supported harm to my family.
