OpenAI has rolled out a paid-premium version of its ground-breaking app, ChatGPT.

‘ChatGPT Professional’ is available at a price of $42 per month to selected users. The research lab revealed its plan of monetizing the tool a week ago. The premium version will have exclusive benefits like no downtime, faster response speed, and priority access to new features along with no throttling and increased API request limits.

Some users on social media spotted the “Upgrade plan” option on the ChatGPT web interface. The pro version is not accessible to each and everyone as it is based on selection. The company also posted a waitlist link on its Discord server.

Currently, OpenAI is believed to be spending over $100,000 a day to run the platform. The paid version can become a significant source of revenue for the company. As of now, ChatGPT has nearly 75 million unique monthly users, as per SimilarWeb.

A few weeks ago, OpenAI signaled that it is working on a paid, pro version of the chatbot. “We’re starting to think about how to monetize ChatGPT (early thinking, nothing official to share yet). Our goal is to continue improving and maintaining the service, and monetization is one way we’re considering to ensure its long-term viability. We’re interested in chatting with some folks for ~15 min to get some early feedback. If you’re interested in chatting, please fill out this form (takes ~10 min to fill out),” the company announced on its official discord server.

Recently, American multinational tech giant Microsoft revealed its plan to invest $10 billion into OpenAI. The funding will include other firms and will value OpenAI at $29 billion.

OpenAI is already known for its other AI tools such as Dall-E, which is an AI-based text-to-image generator. It recently introduced ChatGPT, which is a clever chatbot that engages users by intuitively responding to queries, writing code, and even poetry. The bot even keeps track of the conversation’s flow and bases its subsequent responses on past queries and answers.
