Trump launched Truth Social, an app that offers a Twitter-like social experience, following his ban from the social media platform.
American multinational tech major Meta has reinstated the Facebook and Instagram accounts of Donald Trump. The move comes two years after the Mark Zuckerberg-led company suspended the former U.S. President’s account amid accusations of inciting the Capitol Hill riots.
Trump has been granted access to both accounts and will be subject to Meta’s Community Standards. Reports suggest that if the former president from the Republican party is found posting violating content in the future, then the content will be removed; based on the content’s severity, his account could be suspended for between one month and two years.
The move comes before the U.S. Presidential Elections scheduled in 2024 wherein Trump also announced making a run for the White House. At the time of writing this story, the 45th President of the United States had 34 million followers on Facebook and 23.4 million followers on Instagram.
Apart from Facebook and Instagram, the former U.S. President was also banned from Alphabet-owned YouTube and microblogging site Twitter following accusations of inciting the Capitol Hill riots in January 2021. Last year, Elon Musk-owned Twitter restored Trump’s account. Trump, however, said he has no interest in returning to Twitter and plans to stick with Truth Social, an app developed by his startup in February 2021.
Truth Social, an app that offers a Twitter-like social experience, also got banned from Google in August last year over “insufficient” content moderation policies. The app was reinstated on both Google Play Store and Apple App Store later that year.
