Nintendo has revealed a special-edition OLED Switch console inspired by the highly anticipated The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, set to launch on April 28. Preorders for the limited-edition console have already appeared at major retailers, including Best Buy, Target, GameStop, and Amazon.
Tears of the Kingdom is the sequel to the wildly popular The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, which was released alongside the Nintendo Switch in 2017. With over 29 million copies sold, Breath of the Wild became a standout success for the franchise. First announced in 2019, Tears of the Kingdom is scheduled for release on May 12.
The special-edition console, priced at $360, features a white, gold, and green design inspired by the upcoming Zelda sequel. It boasts a 7-inch OLED screen and 64GB of internal storage. However, the console does not include the new Zelda game, which carries a higher-than-average price tag of $70.
In addition to the themed console, Nintendo will also release a Tears of the Kingdom-themed Nintendo Switch Pro Controller and carrying case when the game debuts in May.
As part of the marketing push for The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, Nintendo recently shared 10 minutes of gameplay footage during a virtual Direct event. The footage, narrated by series producer Eiji Aonuma, showcased some of Link’s new abilities, which impact both combat and traversal. Aonuma encouraged players to explore various ways to reach the game’s Sky Islands.
The limited-edition Zelda-themed Switch console features a dock with golden runes on a white background, reminiscent of the pattern on Link’s Hero’s Shield. The console itself incorporates the game’s theme colors, gold and green. The console will retail for $360. Nintendo also plans to sell a new Zelda-themed controller and carrying case separately.
