Apple’s highly anticipated ‘Wonderlust’ event, scheduled for September 12 at 10:30 PM IST, is expected to unveil a new series of products including the iPhone 15 and second-generation AirPods Pro along with the Apple Watch Series 9 and the second-generation Apple Watch Ultra.
According to Mark Gurman of Bloomberg, in his recent Power On newsletter, the new Apple Watches will bring a multitude of internal upgrades, including a new optical heart rate sensor, “a significant upgrade from the third-gen heart rate sensor on the Watch Series 8,” Gurman said.
Size and Design
The Apple Watch Series 9 is likely to be available in 42mm and 45mm sizes, while the Ultra 2 could break the mold with a 49mm size. Gurman states that both watches will maintain a similar design language to their predecessors but expect to see the Ultra 2 crafted from more recycled materials, potentially featuring a new black color option.
For the first time since the 2020’s Series 6, the watches are set to receive new chipsets, providing an expected boost in speed and performance. Like the forthcoming iPhone 15 series, the smartwatches are also slated to include the U2 ultrawide-band chip, enhancing the ‘Find My’ capabilities.
Apple continues its push for environmental responsibility as it explores a new manufacturing process based on 3D printing for the stainless steel models of the Series 9. The Ultra line might adopt this process as early as next year. The Cupertino tech giant is also expected to pivot away from some of its leather watch bands, with possible updates or discontinuations of its stainless steel link bracelets.
The ‘Wonderlust’ event will be livestreamed through Apple’s YouTube channel and Apple.com, featuring not just the watches but also the iPhone 15 series and a new set of AirPods Pro. The iPhone 15 series itself is rumored to include four different models: iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, and iPhone 15 Plus.
As we count down the hours to the ‘Wonderlust’ event, the technology world is abuzz with speculations and high hopes. The Apple Watch Series 9 and Ultra 2 are already shaping up to be game-changers in the wearable tech market. All eyes will be on Apple Park this September 12, as Apple looks set to redefine what a smartwatch can do.
