American multinational e-commerce major Amazon has announced a significant reduction in the price of its Prime Lite membership. The annual subscription, originally priced at Rs 999, has been slashed by Rs 200, making it now available for just Rs 799.
Prime Lite, a more economical version of Amazon’s regular Prime membership, is tailored for users who seek the core benefits of Amazon Prime at a lower cost. With the latest price cut, Prime Lite members can enjoy enhanced delivery benefits including free one-day and same-day deliveries, an upgrade from the previous two-day delivery offering. For an additional Rs 175 per order, members can also opt for morning deliveries.
However, the trade-offs for this reduced price include limited access to some of Amazon’s premium services. While Prime Lite members can still enjoy Prime Video, the content is restricted to HD quality with ads and is limited to streaming on a single device. Other services like Amazon Music and Prime Gaming are also now absent from the revised program.
Nevertheless, the plan compensates with other attractive perks. Members are entitled to early access to Amazon’s ‘Lightning Deals’ and ‘Deals of the Day,’ along with up to 5% cashback on select purchases. The Prime Lite membership also maintains some of the benefits of the standard Prime subscription, such as no-cost EMI options on select smartphones and the Prime Advantage program, which offers free screen replacement for up to 6 months.
The revised Prime Lite plan is currently only available as an annual subscription, unlike the standard Prime membership which offers monthly and three-month options as well. For consumers who prioritize quick delivery and are content with HD video streaming, the Prime Lite membership presents a compelling, cost-effective alternative.
This price adjustment comes just before the New Year, providing an added incentive for shoppers to sign up for Prime Lite.
