A TikTok video showcasing a Cybertruck owner's harrowing experience with a jammed accelerator pedal sheds light on a production setback for Tesla's highly anticipated electric pickup truck

Tesla’s highly anticipated Cybertruck has encountered a production setback due to an issue with the vehicle’s accelerator pedal, according to multiple media reports. The electric vehicle manufacturer has reportedly halted the production line at its Austin, Texas plant for a week while engineers investigate and address the problem.

The issue came to light when at least one customer, who had been promised an imminent delivery of their Cybertruck, received a message from Tesla informing them of an “unexpected delay.” The message stated that the company needed to cancel the scheduled delivery appointment and would reach out again once they were able to reschedule.

Further insight into the nature of the problem was provided by a current Cybertruck owner in a TikTok video. The video demonstrated how the cover of the accelerator pedal slipped forward and became stuck under a part of the vehicle’s interior, causing the pedal to jam in a fully depressed position. This resulted in the Cybertruck accelerating uncontrollably. The owner noted that while braking overrode the accelerator, the vehicle would speed up again each time the brake was released. The situation was eventually resolved safely, and the owner is currently operating the Cybertruck without the pedal cover.

Although Tesla has not issued an official recall to address the apparent pedal problem, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has confirmed that they are aware of the issue and are in contact with the manufacturer to gather more information. Tesla has not yet made any public comments regarding the matter.

The Cybertruck, which finally launched in December 2023 after several delays, has been a highly anticipated addition to Tesla’s lineup of electric vehicles. The company aims to produce 250,000 Cybertrucks annually, but CEO Elon Musk has stated that this production goal may not be achieved until 2025 at the earliest.

The current production delay serves as a reminder of the challenges faced by automakers when introducing new and innovative vehicles to the market. As Tesla works to resolve the accelerator pedal issue, the company will need to balance the need for a swift resolution with the importance of ensuring the safety and reliability of its vehicles. The automotive industry and Tesla enthusiasts alike will be closely monitoring developments in the coming weeks to see how the company addresses this setback and moves forward with the production of the Cybertruck.
