CD Projekt Red Veterans Launch New Studio, Blank., to Explore Novel Gaming Terrains

CD Projekt Red veterans break new ground in the gaming industry with the launch of their studio, Blank., focused on exploring uncharted gaming territories

Blank

In an intriguing evolution of the gaming industry, a band of former developers from CD Projekt Red have banded together to form their own gaming studio – a venture they’ve imaginatively named “Blank.”. This cheeky play on words, right down to the included punctuation mark, demonstrates a spirit of creativity and audacity that they are eager to infuse into their future projects.

Breaking from tradition, this write-up will streamline the studio’s name to just “Blank”, sparing readers, and ourselves, from the somewhat unconventional punctuation decision.

Mateusz Kanik, who served CD Projekt Red for a commendable 15 years before stepping into the shoes of a co-founder at Blank, expressed his enthusiasm for this new venture, saying, “We’re thrilled to announce Blank and to start expanding our incredible team.”

Blank follows in the footsteps of several other studios sprung from the talent pool of former CD Projekt Red developers over the recent years. In 2022, Rebel Wolves made its debut and is currently engaged in developing a “AAA dark fantasy RPG.” Likewise, Dark Passenger launched in the same year, with its team diligently crafting an online multiplayer co-op game set in the captivating era of feudal Japan.

The founders of Blank took a moment to acknowledge their studio’s unconventional name in their inaugural press release, and outlined their intent to focus on creating “beautifully crafted games and unique experiences for players, favoring novel territory rather than well-trodden ground.”

As an embodiment of this philosophy, Blank has also announced that they are currently working on a yet-to-be-named project. According to their official website, the project is a “character driven story from an apocalypse—with a twist or two.” The team’s experience with creating vast, complex games with open worlds has now driven them towards simplicity and uniqueness—emotions, quality, and refinement.

Hence, fans of The Witcher series, a highly successful project of CD Projekt Red, might have to recalibrate their expectations. The new territory that Blank aims to tread is bound to be novel and unexplored.
