UIDAI allows verification of mobile number, email seeded with Aadhaar
The resident needs to opt for the ‘Verify email/mobile Number’ feature on UIDAI’s website or app.

The Unique Identification Authority of India, or UIDAI, announced on Tuesday that residents can verify their mobile numbers and email IDs seeded with their Aadhaar. The feature is available both on the UIDAI website and mobile application.

The development comes after the Aadhaar custodian authority noticed some instances where residents were not aware or not sure about which of their mobile numbers is seeded to their Aadhaar. “Hence residents were worried that Aadhaar OTP might be going to some other mobile number. Now, with this facility, the residents can check these quite easily,” UIDAI said.

To avail of the latest facility, residents need to visit UIDAI’s official website or mAadhaar App and then opt for the ‘Verify email/mobile Number’ feature. Residents will see a message like, ‘the mobile number you have entered is already verified with our records’ on their screen in case their mobile number is already verified.

“This feature gives confirmation to resident that email/mobile number under his/her knowledge is only seeded to respective Aadhaar,” the authority said.

Furthermore, the facility also notifies the user in case a particular mobile number is not linked. It also informs them to take the necessary steps to update their mobile number. Additionally, the resident can check the last three digits of the mobile on Verify Aadhaar feature on UIDAI’s website or app in case they do not remember which number they gave during enrolment.

The same is the process for email verification. However, to link email or phone number with Aadhaar or to update the same, a resident need to visit the nearest Aadhaar centre.

Talking about Aadhaar, UIDAI is a statutory organization established by the Indian government in 2009 to issue Aadhaar cards, which are 12-digit unique identification number that serves as proof of identity and address for Indian residents. Aadhaar is considered the world’s largest biometric identification system.

As of March 2023, Aadhaar authentication transactions climbed to nearly 2.31 billion. This indicates the growing usage of Aadhar and in turn growth of India’s digital economy.
