This forthcoming facility will mark Ola Electric's second factory in Tamil Nadu, alongside its existing two-wheeler factory, known as FutureFactory, situated in Pochampalli.

Ola Gigafactory

Ola Electric has begun construction for India’s largest Gigafactory. The first pillar of the cell factory was recently installed at the sprawling site in Krishnagiri, Tamil Nadu. The factory is set to kickstart operations by early next year, catering to the increasing demand for electric vehicles (EVs) in the country.

Spanning an expansive area of 115 acres, the Ola Gigafactory will initially have a capacity of 5 gigawatt-hours (GWh). However, the company plans to expand this capacity in phases up to an impressive 100 GWh. This forthcoming facility will mark Ola Electric’s second factory in Tamil Nadu, alongside its existing two-wheeler factory, known as FutureFactory, situated in Pochampalli. The company also boasts state-of-the-art research and development facilities in Bengaluru.

Bhavish Aggarwal, Founder, and CEO of Ola, expressed his enthusiasm, saying, “This is a proud moment for us as we installed the first pillar of our Gigafactory today. Our Gigafactory will be a major milestone in India’s electrification journey, bringing us closer to making India a global EV hub.” Aggarwal emphasized Ola’s commitment to innovation, technology, and large-scale manufacturing, highlighting their dedication to driving the future of electric mobility and striving to end the era of internal combustion engines.

The establishment of the Ola Gigafactory represents a crucial step towards India’s ambition of becoming a prominent global EV hub. Ola aims to localize all critical elements of the EV value chain, fostering self-reliance and promoting the growth of the electric vehicle sector within the country.

Ola Electric has made substantial investments in cell and battery research and development, setting up one of the world’s largest and most advanced cell R&D facilities in Bangalore. Known as Ola’s Battery Innovation Center, this facility is a hub for cutting-edge technology and plays a vital role in core cell tech development and battery innovation.

Ola Electric recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Government of Tamil Nadu in line with its expansion plans. The agreement aims to enhance the company’s manufacturing capabilities across two-wheelers, four-wheelers, and cells. As part of this collaboration, Ola will establish an EV Hub. This comprehensive facility will house advanced cell and electric vehicle manufacturing units, vendor and supplier parks, and other essential components of the EV ecosystem in a single location.
