Carl Pei, chief executive officer of British consumer electronics company Nothing, has left the tech community intrigued with its latest announcement that promises to be an “industry first.” A recent teaser, shared on the social media platform X, formerly Twitter, has sparked widespread speculation about the nature of the upcoming reveal scheduled for March 20.

The 10-second video features a snippet of a conversation between Carl Pei and Nothing’s short-form content manager Julie Duan, hinting at the groundbreaking nature of the forthcoming product. “So I think this is a bit of an industry first. Why do you think other companies haven’t done this before?” Duan asks, to which Carl Pei cryptically responds, “Well, it’s uh…”, followed by a cut to black and the reveal date.

The video has garnered significant attention, amassing over 159,000 views, with the tech community eagerly throwing guesses ranging from the unveiling of the ring to wireless earbuds to software updates. Some even expect that the company could announce Nothing Phone 3 today.

The London-based company has recently forayed into the budget smartphone segment with the launch of Nothing Phone 2a. To recap, this device is powered by a MediaTek Dimensity 7200 Pro SoC chipset, boasts a 5000mAh battery with 45W fast charging support, and features a new Glyph LED design. Additionally, it features a pair of 50-megapixel cameras on its back and a 32-megapixel front camera. The device comes with an IP54 rating for dust and water resistance. The Nothing Phone 2a starts at Rs. 23,999 for the base model with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage.

Nothing is known for its flair for dramatic product unveilings. The anticipation for the March 20 announcement is palpable, but the consumer tech player remains tight-lipped, leaving the tech world abuzz with anticipation.
