CoTweets: Twitter is trying a feature that lets two accounts co-author a tweet

The micro-blogging platform, Twitter is testing a new feature that will allow two accounts to co-author a tweet. CoTweets will let two users create a tweet together which after sharing, will appear on both their profiles.

For CoTweeting, one of the two accounts will post the content and then add the second account to it as a co-author. In order to become the co-author, the second account must accept the invite. Following these two steps,  the post immediately goes out as a CoTweet and is showcased on the profiles of both the authors and their followers’ timelines.

Twitter Create announced this feature on Thursday and said the feature is available for some users in the US, Canada, and Korea for a limited period of time.

While speaking to The Verge, Twitter spokesperson Joseph J. Nuñez said, “We’re testing CoTweets for a limited time to learn how people and brands may use this feature to grow and reach new audiences, and strengthen their collaborations with other accounts.”

A CoTweet will have authors’ profile pictures and usernames in the header. This feature will help authors share the spotlight, unlock opportunities for engaging new audiences, and enhance their established partnerships, says Twitter.

In its blog Twitter said, if an account received and accepted a CoTweet invitation and later doesn’t want to be a co-author of that CoTweet, the user can revoke the CoTweet once it’s published via a new field in the Tweet menu. The CoTweet will become a regular Tweet by the original author.

Other than Twitter, Instagram already has a similar co-author feature that allows two accounts to share pictures and videos by sharing credits. I can’t wait to see how Wendy’s, the burger joint that’s always going viral, uses CoTweets to roast its next Twitter victim.
