DC Studios Schedules “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow” for Summer 2026

DC Studios has swiftly set a release date for “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow” following the appointment of its director. The high-profile film is scheduled to soar into cinemas on June 26, 2026, as announced by DC and Warner Bros. on Tuesday. This marks the second film to secure a release date since James Gunn and Peter Safran began their overhaul of DC under the new DC Studios banner. The first was “Superman,” which Gunn is currently filming for a July 2025 release.

Filmmaker Craig Gillespie has been chosen by Gunn and Safran to direct “Supergirl,” starring Milly Alcock, known for her role in “House of the Dragon.” Alcock will portray Kara Zor-El, Superman’s cousin. The script, penned by Ana Nogueira, draws inspiration from the Tom King and Bilquis Evely comic. This cinematic adaptation will offer a fresh take on the character, distinct from the portrayal in the CW’s “Supergirl” series. Insiders report that production is set to commence this fall. Additionally, DC Studios is developing a Batman movie with director Andy Muschietti.

    Other Warner Bros Projects

Warner Bros. also announced release dates for several other high-profile films. “Mortal Kombat 2,” directed by Simon McQuoid from a script by Jeremy Slater, will hit theaters on October 24, 2025. The sequel, based on the video game by Ed Boon and John Tobias, features an ensemble cast including Karl Urban, Adeline Rudolph, and Lewis Tan. The production team includes Todd Garner, James Wan, Simon McQuoid, E. Bennett Walsh, and Toby Emmerich.

“Companion,” a sci-fi thriller produced by Zach Cregger along with Raphael Margules and J.D. Lifshitz of BoulderLight Pictures and Vertigo’s Roy Lee, will kick off the year with a release on January 10, 2025. Directed by Drew Hancock, the film stars Jack Quaid, Sophie Thatcher, Lukas Gage, Megan Suri, Harvey Guillén, and Rupert Friend.

Following that, “Weapons,” another project from the creative team behind “Companion” and last year’s “Barbarian,” will be released on January 16, 2026. Directed by Cregger, the film stars Josh Brolin, Julia Garner, Alden Ehrenreich, Austin Abrams, Cary Christopher, Benedict Wong, and Amy Madigan.

Warner Bros. also announced the release date for the animated holiday film “Margie Claus,” set to open on November 5, 2027. Melissa McCarthy will voice the title role and produce the Warner Bros. Animation project alongside her husband and producing partner, Ben Falcone, and Pilar Flynn.
