Chinese phone-maker Honor launched its latest foldable smartphone Magic Vs on Wednesday.
During the launch, Honor CEO George Zhao said “The Honor Magic VS will be our very first foldable flagship to debut in overseas markets and we are confident that it will deliver huge advancements, transforming how people all around the world use their smartphones.” The release information or international pricing has yet not been announced. Honor says to expect a global release early next year. In China, the device will start at ¥7,499 (around Rs 85,751) for the lowest specced model with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage and will ship on November 30th. The device is available for preorders.
Honor Magic Vs specifications
Magic Vs is a sequel to Honor Magic V. The second iteration of the foldable smartphone comes with some improvements. The design is similar to Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold devices with a large 7.9-inch internal folding display along with a smaller 6.45-inch cover display for use while the device is folded shut.
The Magic Vs is powered by Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1, which is a pretty capable flagship chipset and was Snapdragon’s most powerful one before it launched Snapdragon 8 gen 2. The phone comes in three variants: 8GB RAM and 256GB storage, 12 GB RAM and 256 GB storage and 12 GB RAM, and 512 GB storage.
The smartphone sports a 7.9-inch FHD+ inner display with a 90Hz refresh rate and aspect ratio of 90 per cent. Outside, it has a 6.45-inch FHD+ 120Hz AMOLED display. Both displays are 10-bit panels and come with HDR10+ playback support and 1920Hz PWM Dimming technology. It also has stylus support.
Honor claims with Magic Vs, the foldable panel is practically creaseless as the new hinge is “carefully crafted with a single-piece processing technology”. To maintain durability and sturdiness, there are only 4 elements, instead of 92 elements. The company says its folding mechanism is rated to withstand 400,000 folds, double that of the original Magic V. That means, a lifespan of up to 10 years if you unfold and fold it 10 times a day.
Talking about the camera setup, Honor Magic Vs has revamped triple-camera setup, with a 54MP Sony IMX800 main sensor, a 50MP ultrawide-angle cam that also acts as a macro lens, and an 8MP telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom. It has a 16MP selfie camera on the cover display with an f/2.45 aperture in front.
This foldable smartphone comes with a 5,000 mAh battery with 66W fast charging that is capable of charging the battery from 0 to 100% in 46 minutes. The phone runs the just-announced MagicOS 7.0, but it is on top of Android 12.
