Get ready to set sail once again with Moana! Yes, Disney has released the first trailer for its highly anticipated sequel to the smash hit animated film “Moana.” Called Moana 2 the movie takes off from where it left off from the original Moana, released in 2016, captured hearts with its stunning animation, powerful story, and catchy music. This new chapter reunites Auliʻi Cravalho as Moana and Dwayne Johnson as Maui for another grand adventure across the ocean.

A new journey awaits in Moana 2

The official trailer teases a thrilling new journey as Moana and Maui are back for a new voyage alongside a crew of unique seafarers. Guided by a message from her ancestors, Moana must explore the far reaches of Oceania and navigate uncharted waters to face a challenge unlike any she’s encountered before. The trailer offers a glimpse of Moana heeding the call to journey beyond the known horizon. Maui, with his usual flair for the dramatic, also makes an appearance, much to the dismay of a pig and chicken seemingly destined for “snack” duty.

This exciting sequel marks the feature film directorial debut of David G. Derrick Jr. Fans of the original film’s music will be happy to hear that music duo Abigail Barlow and Emily Bear are returning alongside Opetaia Foa’i and Mark Mancina. Notably, Lin-Manuel Miranda won’t be composing new music for Moana 2. The announcement of the sequel comes after the original Moana’s impressive success. The film grossed over $680 million worldwide and found new life on Disney+, reaching a billion streams in 2023.

Adding another layer to the Moana universe, a live-action remake of the original film is also in the works. While Dwayne Johnson is confirmed to reprise his role as Maui, the search is on for a new actress to portray Moana in live-action. Auliʻi Cravalho, however, is thrilled about the expansion of the Moana world. “It feels like the ‘Moana’ universe is expanding, and I love that,” she shared. “Moana is a hero to so many, and I’m excited that more generations will be able to connect with this character.” Moana 2 sets sail for theaters on November 27, 2024. Be sure to check out the trailer for a sneak peek at this exciting new adventure!
