OpenAI has announced the much-awaited launch of its ChatGPT application for Android devices. The app is set to be released next week and pre-registration is already available on the Google Play Store, allowing users to build anticipation for its arrival.
In an announcement on Twitter, OpenAI confirmed the launch of the ChatGPT app for Android: “Announcing ChatGPT for Android! The app will be rolling out to users next week, and you can pre-order in the Google Play Store starting today.”
The ChatGPT Android app will come with a number of features to enhance user interactions with AI. It offers instant answers, personalized advice, creative inspiration, and professional input, all accessible at users’ fingertips. The free app will offer a synchronization feature, allowing users to seamlessly access their history across multiple devices.
Addressing data safety concerns, OpenAI has provided detailed information on how it collects, shares, and handles user data within the app. The company has assured users that the ChatGPT Android app does not share their data with any third parties. The app collects certain data types, including approximate location, name, email address, phone number, in-app messages, user interactions, crash logs, and diagnostic data. OpenAI also has an option for users to request data deletion.
The ChatGPT app has already gained significant attention on the App Store, where over 10.6k users have given it an average rating of 4.4 out of five stars. It ranks among the top five productivity apps for iPhone. At the same time, OpenAI is expanding the availability of ChatGPT’s iOS app to 11 additional countries, including Albania, Croatia, France, Germany, Ireland, Jamaica, Korea, New Zealand, Nicaragua, Nigeria, and the United Kingdom.
With the ChatGPT app making its way to Android devices, OpenAI aims to captivate millions of users worldwide. While its popularity is on the rise, a potential challenge may arise when major tech giants like Apple and Google develop their generative AI technologies that integrate directly into their operating systems.
Furthermore, the company is introducing custom instructions, giving users more control over the chatbot’s responses, initially available to ChatGPT Plus users and later expanding to all users. Additionally, OpenAI is doubling the number of messages ChatGPT Plus customers can send with GPT-4, increasing the new message limit to 50 every 3 hours.
