A new Prince of Persia game, titled “The Rogue Prince of Persia,” is reportedly on the horizon. Industry insider Tom Henderson revealed details about the game, suggesting it will be a roguelite developed by Evil Empire, the studio behind the popular Dead Cells.

According to Tom, the official announcement and release of The Rogue Prince of Persia are anticipated for April 10 and May 14, respectively. This launch plan hints at a Steam Early Access release, which would mark a departure from Ubisoft’s usual approach of avoiding Valve’s storefront for new releases. This also means the game might not be available on PlayStation consoles at launch due to their policy against early access titles. Xbox Game Preview remains a possibility, but confirmation is lacking.

Development of The Rogue Prince of Persia reportedly began in 2019 and is said to draw inspiration from Franco-Belgian comics for its artistic style. Similar to Dead Cells, the game is expected to receive significant post-launch support, although details regarding paid and free DLC remain unclear. If this leak proves accurate, Ubisoft will have announced and released two Prince of Persia titles since the 2020 reveal of The Sands of Time remake.

While the remake’s release date remains uncertain, both the rumored Rogue Prince of Persia and Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown’s content roadmap suggest the franchise could maintain its relevance in the near future. Although all details remain under wraps, anticipation is building for The Rogue Prince of Persia’s arrival later this year. This news comes alongside the recent announcement from Motion Twin, creators of Dead Cells, that they are moving on to new projects.

Meanwhile, the fate of the long-awaited Prince of Persia: Sands of Time Remake remains unclear. Though Ubisoft confirmed the game reaching an “Important Milestone” in November 2023, no further updates or release date have been revealed. With The Rogue Prince of Persia on the horizon, fans of the franchise can look forward to a fresh take on the classic series, while Ubisoft explores a new direction for the legendary Prince.
