The Super Bowl frenzy has taken over once again. Along with the football fervor, Super Bowl 2024 kicked of by showcasing Hollywood’s upcoming blockbuster trailers, and the unforgettable commercials of famous brands that we all love. Here are some of the gripping movie trailers and commercials that we saw during the event.
Deadpool and Wolverine
Marvel fans are in for a wild ride with the studio’s highly anticipated film, Deadpool & Wolverine. Slated to hit theaters on July 26th, 2024, this movie happens to be Marvel’s first R-rated superhero adventure. Played yet again by Ryan Reynolds, the trailer begins with Wade Wilson (Deadpool) celebrating his birthday party with friends but is interrupted by armored troops from the Time Variance Authority (TVA) hot on his trail, taking him away through a portal.
He later finds himself entangled in a time-bending escapade as Deadpool. Amidst the chaos, there’s a nod to the Disney acquisition, but it’s the mysterious task Deadpool’s been recruited for that steals the spotlight. With glimpses of a battle scene set against the backdrop of a demolished 20th Century Fox logo, the trailer teases the inclusion of characters from old-X-Men films, leaving fans speculating about who else might make an appearance. While Wolverine’s subtle glimpses are seen in the footage, the movie does look intriguing and filled up to the brim with action.
Despicable Me 4
Gru and his minions return for yet another escapade in the highly-anticipated Despicable Me 4, unveiled by Illumination Entertainment and is slated for release July 3rd. This time around, Gru (Steve Carell) finds himself juggling marriage to Lucy Wilde (Kristen Wiig), fatherhood to a newborn son “Gru. Jr” alongside his three beloved adopted daughters, all while facing off against the nefarious Maxime Le Mal (Will Ferrell) and his femme-fatale accomplice Valentina (Sofia Vergara). The trailer is a rollercoaster of laughs and action, featuring Gru’s daring heists, tussles with a wild honey badger, and the trademark mischief of his loyal minions. Penned by Mike White and Ken Daurio, the film seems promising to delight fans and tide them over.
The Fall Guy
From the makers of Bullet Train, adrenaline-fueled “The Fall Guy”, features Barbie fame “Ken” Ryan Gosling as the daring Colt Seavers, with jawdropping visuals in the Super Bowl trailer that was packed with high-octane action, alien encounters, and space cowboys. Amidst heart-pounding sequences and gripping suspense, a poignant moment unfolds as Gosling’s character finds solace in Taylor Swift’s haunting melody called “All Too Well“, adding depth to the gripping narrative. The movie is set to hit theatres on May 3rd.
Bringing to life the beloved television series, Gosling leads a stellar cast alongside the talented Emily Blunt as his fiery ex, Jody, and Aaron Taylor-Johnson. With a supporting lineup including Stephanie Hsu, Winston Duke, Hannah Waddingham, and Teresa Palmer, the stage is set for a cinematic journey like no other. The movie does give the vibe of a true cinematic experience that will leave audiences on the edge of their seats.
Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes
In the midst of the electrifying Super Bowl atmosphere, 20th Century Studios unveiled a new version of the trailer for the Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes. The film is set to release on 10th May. The trailer transports audiences several generations beyond Caesar’s Reign, in the wake of Proximus Caesar’s rise to power. He quickly enslaves the other clans in a desperate search for the last traces of secret human technology. When a new ape Proximus Caesar, ascends to the throne, a young ape named Mae embarks on a perilous odyssey amidst the turmoil, grappling with newfound truths that challenge the very foundation of his beliefs. Eventually, Proximus begins to question everything he knows about the past.
Google’s ‘Javier in Frame’ commercial
Google showcased the AI Accessibility feature that was previously seen on the Pixel 7, called the Guided Frame Feature. In a heartwarming Pixel 8 Super Bowl commercial, director Adam Morse, who is blind, offers a unique perspective on how individuals with low vision can benefit from this innovative technology by showcasing the daily activities of a visually impaired person with an adorable ending to it. The feature is tailored for visually impaired individuals, offering an inclusive approach to photography by delivering audio descriptions of the viewfinder’s contents. Harnessing the power of artificial intelligence, this feature seamlessly guides users, empowering them to capture moments with ease and confidence.
Where’s Usher? Apple commercial
After a wild night out in Vegas, home of Super Bowl LVIII, Ludacris, Lil Jon, and Taraji P. Henson have gone and lost Usher, as they tell the Apple CEO Tim Cook via FaceTime. Tim is seen wearing a cool tee with Usher design on it. Realizing the fate of the year’s most anticipated performance hangs in the balance, the determined trio embark on a mission to locate Usher.
Doritos’ Dina and Mita
During the nail-biting third quarter of Super Bowl LVIII on Sunday, February 11th, viewers were treated to an action-packed Doritos commercial featuring Jenna Ortega, Dina, and Mita on a mission to snag their beloved Dinamita chips. However, their quest takes an unexpected turn when actor Danny Ramirez swoops in and snatches the last bag for himself, setting off a fiery pursuit. As the feisty duo of Dina and Mita leave Ortega in their dust, the chase unfolds into a high-energy spectacle, showcasing their unwavering determination to savor every flavorful bite of Doritos Dinamita snacks.
Oreo’s Return to the Super Bowl
Oreo made a triumphant return to the Super Bowl stage with a captivating commercial that weaves a narrative where the fate of history hangs delicately on the iconic twist of its cream-filled cookies. Delving into a timeline where pivotal moments hinge on the simple act of enjoying an Oreo, the ad subtly hints at darker implications, inviting viewers draw certain conclusions from that of a likely mythical Trojan horse that led to the burning of the city of Troy.
These were some among the ensemble of blockbuster trailers like that of Wicked, a Twister sequel called Twisters and Beyonce’s latest track called Cant B broken (extended version). Other new commercials telecasted through Super Bowl 2024 included Microsoft’s Copilot, BMW’s All new i5 and 5 series that stated “Only one Christopher Walken, and Only one ultimate driving machine” amongst other adverts.
