From Cars to Phones: Polestar Introduces Rebranded Meizu 21 Pro

While the world was already amazed by the news of a smartphone company making a car, an electric car manufacturer surprised everyone by announcing a phone. Polestar, a Swedish automotive manufacturer owned by Volvo Cars, recently announced the Polestar Phone. Initially, many wondered if the phone was actually manufactured by Polestar. However, it turns out that the Polestar Phone is a rebranded version of the Meizu 21 Pro, which launched in China on March 2nd, 2024.

The Meizu 21 Pro, which launched in late February 2024, is the successor to the well-received Meizu 20 Pro. Here are the complete details of what it offers. The Meizu 21 Pro retains the core strengths of its predecessor as it sports the same Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor with up to 16GB of RAM, delivering excellent performance for demanding apps and multitasking. Storage options remain the same, ranging from 256GB to a whopping 1TB.

The phone features the same impressive 6.79-inch LTPO AMOLED display with a smooth 120Hz refresh rate. The display boasts HDR support and gets incredibly bright for clear visuals outdoors. Meizu’s Titan Glass 2.0 protects the screen. The triple-camera system on the back remains identical to the 20 Pro. The 50MP main sensor with OIS promises high-quality photos and videos. A 10MP periscope telephoto lens offers 3x optical zoom, while a 13MP ultrawide sensor captures expansive shots. The 32MP selfie camera caters to selfie enthusiasts.

Just like its predecessor, the Meizu 21 Pro boasts an IP68 dust and water resistance rating and a large 5050mAh battery. The phone supports incredibly fast 80W wired charging, 50W wireless charging, and even 10W reverse wireless charging. Similar to the 20 Pro, it lacks a 3.5mm headphone jack but offers stereo speakers and an infrared port.

The phone runs on the latest Android 14 with Meizu’s Flyme OS. It remains unclear if the Polaris Phone shall feature the same too. Pricing starts around 640 EUR for the Meizu handset, with specific regional availability details to be confirmed by Meizu. The Meizu 21 Pro offers minimal upgrades over the Meizu 20 Pro. If you already own the 20 Pro, there might not be a compelling reason to upgrade. However, for those seeking a powerful flagship with a stunning display, a versatile camera system, and long battery life with fast charging options, the Meizu 21 Pro is a compelling option.
