Baidu gradually plans to merge the chatbot into its search engine.

Chinese multinational tech giant Baidu is reportedly planning to launch an artificial intelligence-based bot, similar to ChatGPT. According to a Reuters report, the company is expected to launch the chatbot as soon as March.

Known as China’s Google, Baidu plans to launch the unnamed chatbot as a standalone application. Gradually, however, it will merge it into its search engine. Further, instead of only links, the company is reported to incorporate the results generated by the chatbot when users make search requests.

Baidu has not made any official confirmation yet. The Chinese internet search major has been heavily investing in AI-based projects. According to a report by China Daily, at the developer conference recently, the company unveiled AI-generated content technologies, or AIGC, which would allow creators to assume the role of screenwriters, illustrators, and editors or animators.

OpenAI’s ChatGPT, on the other hand, has been in the limelight since its launch in November last year. Short for Chat Generative Pre-trained Transformer, ChatGPT is a popular AI text generator and has been a center of attention for many due to its human-like response. As per its website, the “conversational” AI app answers “followup questions, admit its mistakes, challenge incorrect premises, and reject inappropriate requests.”

American multinational tech giant Microsoft last week announced a “multibillion dollar investment” in OpenAI. While the actual amount and terms of the deal are still unclear, some reports suggest that Microsoft will invest $10 billion in OpenAI.

The Microsoft-backed startup is also planning to soon launch ChatGPT Pro, a subscription-based version of the software that would offer improved response times and some exclusive features.
