Apple launched AirPods Pro 2 at the ‘Far Out’ launch event in September last year.
American multinational consumer tech giant Apple is reportedly working to develop AirPods Lite. According to Jeff Pu, an analyst at Haitong International Tech Research, and as read on 9to5Mac, this version of the company’s earbuds would compete with cheaper alternatives in the category.
Pu sees a drop in demand for AirPods by 2023. The report further added that shipments of AirPods are expected to fall to 63 million units this year, against 73 million units in 2022, partially because of “soft AirPods 3 demand” and the fact that the iPhone maker may not release new AirPods this year.
Apart from being a lower-priced product to compete with non-Apple earbuds, no other details about its price or specifications are clear at this point. Apple currently offers four different AirPods models including AirPods 2, AirPods 3, Airpods Pro, and AirPods Max. The cheapest AirPods second generation starts at Rs 12,000, and hence it is expected that AirPods Lite will cost less than this. There is, however, another possibility that the company can reduce the price of its second-gen AirPods.
Apple launched AirPods Pro 2 along with iPhone 14 series, Watch Ultra, Watch Series 8, and Watch SE at the ‘Far Out’ launch event in September last year. Adaptive Transparency, active noise cancellation, and spatial audio are some selling points of the AirPods Pro second generation which starts at Rs 26, 900.
