Just like Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox, Bing is a web search engine owned and operated by Microsoft.
American multinational tech giant Microsoft said more than one million people have signed up to try out its new Bing search within 48 hours of its launch. The company last week unveiled a revamped version of its search engine Bing that ChatGPT powers.
“We’re humbled and energized by the number of people who want to test-drive the new AI-powered Bing! In 48 hours, more than 1 million people have joined the waitlist for our preview,” Yusuf Mehdi, corporate vice president, and consumer chief marketing officer at Microsoft Tweeted.
After integrating the technology used by OpenAI’s chatbot, Microsoft’s revamped search engine and browser will be able to provide more tailored, detailed, and contextual responses to queries. Microsoft introduced its overhauled product – Bing – just a day after rival Google announced Bard, the company’s experimental conversational artificial intelligence chatbot service similar to OpenAI’s ChatGPT.
Earlier in January, Microsoft announced a “multimillion-dollar investment” in OpenAI. While the actual amount and terms of the deal were unclear, some reports suggest that Microsoft will invest $10 billion in OpenAI.
Short for Chat Generative Pre-trained Transformer, ChatGPT is a popular AI text generator and has been a center of attention since its release in November last year due to its human-like response. The AI-based text generator has even passed some of the toughest exams in the U.S., including the United States Medical Licensing Exam and an MBA core course – Operations Management offered by the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School of Business.
Talking about Bard, Google unveiled its AI chatbot earlier this month. Bard will be powered by LaMDA, which is short for Language Model for Dialogue Applications that Google unveiled two years ago. The chief executive officer of Alphabet, the parent of Google, said that the company is opening the AI services testers before making it more widely available to the public in the coming weeks.
