Booking.com announces new AI Trip Planner that is partially powered by ChatGPT tech

While considering their travel options, travelers can go back and forth between their chat with the AI Trip Planner and the Booking.com app.

Dutch multinational online travel company Booking.com announced on Tuesday its new Trip Planner with artificial intelligence capabilities. The company’s latest AI Trip Planner, which is open to testing in the United States, is partially powered by ChatGPT’s large language model.

“Our new AI Trip Planner provides us with some really exciting possibilities to help our customers plan and search for travel options in a very natural, human way,” said Booking.com chief technology officer Rob Francis. “Oftentimes, people are asked to adapt to the confines of technology to do what they want, but with generative AI, we’re able to start having scalable, one-to-one conversations with our customers on their terms, much like how you would begin to talk about planning a trip with your partner or friends. It’s just the beginning, but we have lots of runway here to explore in order to innovate and connect the travel experience further on Booking.com, all in a safe, ethical and inclusive way.”

With its latest AI Trip Planner, Booking.com aims to enhance the travel planning experience. Users can ask the AI Trip Planner generic travel-related questions or specific queries to support any stage of their trip-planning process. They can scoop out information regarding potential destinations and accommodation options. In addition, Booking.com’s AI Trip Planner can provide travel inspiration as per the traveler’s specific needs, curate creating itineraries for any particular place across the globe, etc.

The company says that the AI tool gives more tailored travel recommendations in a quick, conversational way. Furthermore, the latest integration provides travelers with a visual list of destinations and properties, including pricing information on the platform. While considering their travel options, travelers can go back and forth between their chat with the AI Trip Planner and the Booking.com app. They can complete a reservation by simple tap on the accommodation they are interested in.

The feature is currently in the Beta phase and open for users in the United States, who must sign in to their Booking.com account in the app and have their language settings set to English to access the new travel planning tool. Booking.com is a popular choice for travelers worldwide, offering a convenient and reliable platform to search, compare, and book accommodations and other travel services. Its wide selection, competitive pricing, and user-friendly interface make it a go-to destination for travelers looking to plan and book their trips efficiently.

Meanwhile, Short for Chat Generative Pre-trained Transformer, ChatGPT is a popular AI text generator and has been the center of attention since its launch in November due to its human-like response. OpenAI, the parent of the AI-based text generator, has a “multimillion-dollar investment” by American tech major Microsoft.
