    Twitter has bid farewell to its iconic bird logo and adopted an “X” as its official logo, following an announcement by the platform’s owner, Elon Musk. The change has already been implemented on the website, with Musk stating that the move to the new logo is an “interim” step, leaving open the possibility of further logo changes in the future.

    Musk’s affinity for the letter ‘X’ is well known, as evidenced by his previous ventures such as SpaceX, and his AI company X.ai. In April, the social network underwent a legal name change from Twitter Inc. to X Corp, further solidifying Musk’s fascination with the letter.

    In a tweet, Musk revealed that x.com now redirects to twitter.com, indicating a significant shift in the platform’s identity. He also suggested that people should refer to Tweets as “X’s,” adding to the mystique surrounding the rebranding.

    Twitter CEO Linda Yaccarino emphasized that the transformation to X goes beyond just replacing the logo. She highlighted that X would focus on enhancing features centered around audio, video, messaging, payment/banking, and create a “global marketplace for ideas, goods, services, and opportunities.”

    The move comes in the wake of Twitter’s financial challenges, with Musk acknowledging the platform’s negative cash flow due to a drop in advertising revenue and a heavy debt load.

    Despite Musk’s enthusiasm for the change, some longtime users of Twitter aren’t particularly thrilled with the rebranding. Notable tech reviewer Marques Brownlee expressed his reservation, stating he would continue to call it Twitter, to which Musk cryptically responded, “Not for long.”

    The new logo itself, described as “minimalist art deco,” was shared as a GIF by a Twitter user named Sawyer Merritt. Musk later confirmed his selection of the logo but hinted at potential refinements in the future.

    This bold move by Musk signals a clear departure from the Twitter of old and signifies his vision of transforming the platform into “X, the everything app.” It remains to be seen how users and the market will respond to the radical changes and whether it will propel Twitter, now X, to new heights in the ever-evolving social media landscape.
