Google Pixelbook Go will be the last of company’s laptops.
Google, an American multinational tech giant, is planning to drop its next Pixelbook laptop and has moved the team responsible for building it to other verticals.
According to The Verge, the laptop was expected to make a debut next year but the project was scrapped as a cost cutting measure by the company, which is now leaving the laptop market altogether. Google Pixelbook Go will be the last of company’s laptops.
Among various hardware offerings, one of the most famous is Google’s Pixel smartphone series. The company is set to launch the Pixel 7 phones and the Pixel Watch in its ‘Made by Google’ event on October 6. It is also planning to soon come up with a Pixel foldable phone and new Android Pro tablet.
“Google doesn’t share future product plans or personnel information; however, we are committed to building and supporting a portfolio of Google products that are innovative and helpful for our users,” The Verge reported, citing a Google official. “In regards to our people, in times where we do shift priorities we work to transition team members across devices and services.”
The move to scrap the laptop came after Sundar Pichai, the company’s Chief Executive Officer, said in an email to employees in July that Google will slow the pace of hiring through 2023 amid the mounting global economic headwinds. The statement came after the company reported a slower pace of year-on-year growth in the first quarter.
The Verge regarded that the Pixelbook team and the Pixelbook itself were the “casualties of that consolidation and redeployment.”
