Samsung ISOCELL HP2 has entered mass production and is expected to debut with the upcoming Galaxy S23 Ultra.
Samsung Electronics on Tuesday unveiled its new 200-megapixel image sensor ISOCELL HP2. The company claims that its latest sensor helps to capture detailed and seamless photos in any light condition.
“The Samsung ISOCELL HP2 harnesses Samsung’s high-resolution image sensor technologies and know-how at the cutting edge for epic details,” said JoonSeo Yim, Executive Vice President of Sensor Business Team at Samsung Electronics.
“Our leadership comes from innovative pixel technologies that allow our sensors to go beyond the number and size of pixels,” he added.
The ISOCELL HP2 comes with Tetra pixel binning technology that adds more versatility to the sensor as it simulates “different pixel sizes to accommodate varying lighting levels.” It further uses a 1/1.3” optical format that is widely used in 108MP main smartphone cameras.
In low-lit environments, the sensor transforms either into a 50MP or 12.5MP image sensor. The sensor could record 8K videos at 33 megapixels. Further, Samsung’s new Dual Vertical Transfer Gate (or D-VTG) technology significantly helps to reduce washed-out colors in pictures captured in brightly lit environments.
Samsung ISOCELL HP2 has entered mass production and is expected to debut with the upcoming Galaxy S23 Ultra. The company will launch the much-awaited S23 smartphone lineup at its Galaxy Unpacked event on February 1 at 11:30 p.m.
