While the well loved Spotify wrapped only comes around once a year, Spotify users might be pleasantly surprised to note that there’s a new feature waiting for them – the Daylist.
Although it was released in September of 2023, it got highlighted in December when Instagram’s “add yours” template began trending that allows users to interactively add to stories. My online posts say things like “Don’t tell me your astrology sign; I want you to go into Spotify, search for your daylist and post the title it gave you,” TechCrunch reported.
But what is a Spotify Daylist?
Well, they are algorithmically curated playlists that regularly update to collect “the niche music and microgenres you usually listen to during particular moments in the day or on specific days of the week,” the service says.
Based on this collection, Daylists create “highly specific playlists made for every version of you,” the service says. “It’s hyper-personalized, dynamic, and playful as it reflects what you want to be listening to right now.”
It is interesting to note how Daylists are being likened to horoscopes and tarot card readings as they offer insights into a listener’s likes.
Daylists are titled very wacky and funnily such as “bedroom pop banger early morning” and “90s rave rainforest late night.”
So why is this announcement even a news? Well for me it is because it takes me back to the days of being 15 and listening to the radio not knowing what song will play next. Daylists, albeit showing you the whole playlist beforehand, are a little bit like that. They are new, spunky and bring spontaneity to my music listening experience. If you are a premium user, then it is like being back with the radio, just without the ads!
