Tesla recalled 2022-2023 Model Y cars along with some other models in February.
American electric vehicle maker Tesla is recalling 3,470 units of 2022-2023 Model Y cars. According to a filing by the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the bolts securing the second-row seat back frames in the vehicles may not have been torqued to specifications.
“The supplier may not have torqued to specifications one or more of the bolts that secure the second-row driver-side and passenger-side seat back frames to the lower seat frames, and the supplier’s quality controls did not detect the condition,” Tesla said while describing the cause. The Elon Musk-led company noted that the estimated percentage with the defect stands at 4%.
Users of Model Y with this condition will notice that a second-row seat back frame may not fold properly or may be loose, and rattle during normal vehicle operation. Tesla Service Centre will free of cost inspect and tighten the loose bolts as necessary.
As of February 23, the company has identified five warranty claims between December 9, 2022, and February 14, 2023, relating to the above conditions. The EV maker is not aware of any injuries or deaths that may be related to such conditions. However, a loose bolt might reduce the seat belt system’s performance and increase the risk of injury during a crash, the NHTSA report noted.
This is the second time this year, and just less than a month, that Tesla has recalled 2022-2023 Model Y cars along with Model S, Model X, and Model 3 cars. In mid-February, the automobile manufacturer recalled 362,000 Teslas with Full Self Driving Systems that regulators found prone to accidents.
