Comedian and television personality Ellen DeGeneres is making a stand-up comedy comeback with a new Netflix special and a multi-city tour. This marks her second stand-up special for the streaming platform, following “Relatable” in 2018. The special, produced by Ben Winston and Fulwell73, is slated for release later in 2024. DeGeneres also announced a stand-up tour kicking off on June 19th in San Diego.

Addressing the anticipation surrounding her return, DeGeneres quipped, “To answer the questions everyone is asking me – Yes, I’m going to talk about it. Yes, this is my last special. Yes, Portia really is that pretty in real life.” The statement hints at the comedian’s willingness to tackle the controversies that have surrounded her recent career developments.

Most notably, DeGeneres’ departure from “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” in 2022 amid allegations of a toxic workplace environment, including allegations of harassment by executive producers, has been widely scrutinized. Following a BuzzFeed News report and an internal investigation by WarnerMedia, DeGeneres took responsibility for the workplace culture and issued a public apology to her staff. The fallout resulted in the dismissal of three executives from the show.

Despite the challenges, DeGeneres leaves behind a remarkable legacy with “The Ellen DeGeneres Show,” which spanned 19 seasons and earned a staggering 63 Daytime Emmy Awards. Prior to her talk show success, DeGeneres made television history with “Ellen,” an ABC sitcom where her character’s coming out as gay mirrored DeGeneres’ own revelation in real life, sparking both controversy and praise in 1997.

Beyond her television achievements, DeGeneres boasts a prolific stand-up comedy career, hosting gigs at prestigious events like the Oscars, Emmys, and Grammys, along with the creation and hosting of “Ellen’s Game of Games.”

Netflix’s VP of stand-up and comedy formats, Robbie Praw, expressed excitement about DeGeneres’ return, stating, “There is nobody quite like Ellen. She is a true legend and pioneer in so many ways. We can’t wait to bring fans another one of her hilarious comedy specials later this year.”

As anticipation builds for DeGeneres’ forthcoming special and stand-up tour, fans eagerly await the chance to experience her comedic brilliance once again, cementing her status as an enduring and influential figure in the world of entertainment.
