MediaTek announces Dimensity 9200+ chip launch on May 10

MediaTek Announces Dimensity 9200+ Chip

MediaTek, a leading semiconductor company, has officially confirmed the launch of its new flagship smartphone chipset, the Dimensity 9200+, on May 10. While it is unclear whether the launch will be accompanied by an event or a simple announcement, the chip is set to make its debut on the same date as Google I/O 2023.

It has not been confirmed what specific improvements the MediaTek Dimensity 9200+ will offer compared to its predecessor, the Dimensity 9200, which was released late last year. However, it is reasonable to assume that the new chip will be an upgraded version of the company’s flagship chip, with enhancements to its CPU and/or GPU clock speed, focusing on improved performance and efficiency.

The Dimensity 9200, comparable to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, has yet to appear in many smartphones. The earlier Dimensity 9000+ was not used in the international market until the release of Oppo’s Find N2 Flip and has not yet been featured in any US releases.

The upcoming MediaTek Dimensity 9200+ is expected to compete with a potential Snapdragon 8+ Gen 2 and challenge the current SD8 Gen 2. The new chipset is likely to be a slight upgrade over the Dimensity 9200, similar to the improvements seen between the Dimensity 9000 and 9000+. The Plus variant featured a higher CPU core and GPU clock, while the architecture, core division, memory, and process technology remained the same.

The Dimensity 9200+ is anticipated to be built on the 4nm FinFET process, featuring one Cortex-X3 core unit, three Cortex-A715 cores, and four Cortex-A510 cores. The GPU is expected to be the Immortalis-G715 MC11. MediaTek may also unveil other minor releases in the Dimensity line alongside the 9200+.

Realme is also holding an event on May 10, raising the possibility that the company could tease a flagship device equipped with the MediaTek Dimensity 9200+. Additionally, the Realme 11 Pro+ is rumored to feature a Dimensity 7000 series chipset, which could be an entirely new chipset since the leaked specs deviate from the Dimensity 7200.

Vivo, another brand that has embraced MediaTek for its flagship devices, recently launched the Vivo X90 and X90, which are powered by the Dimensity 9200. The brand is rumored to continue its partnership with MediaTek for its upcoming Vivo X90S Pro, iQOO Neo 8 Pro, and iQOO 11S, which are likely to feature the Dimensity 9200+.
