The Screen Actors Guild (SAG) has announced the date and key deadlines for its 31st annual Screen Actors Guild Awards ceremony that is set to take place next year. The event, which will be honoring the outstanding performances in the arena of film and television, will be held on February 23, 2025, and will stream live on Netflix for the second consecutive year.
Submissions Open, Key Deadlines Announced
Producers, studios, networks, agents, and actors themselves can now submit performances for award consideration. Submissions open on August 29, 2024, and close on November 1, 2024. To be eligible, performances must have aired or premiered between January 1 and December 31, 2024. Nominations for the awards will be announced on January 8, 2025. Moreover, the Awards find a new home on Netflix, as this shift to airing on an OTT platform marks a new chapter for the SAG Awards. Previously aired on TNT since 1998, the ceremony was first streamed on the platform in 2023 after facing a brief period without any broadcaster. This multi-year partnership strengthens the awards’ reach and accessibility to a much wider audience globally.
A Bellwether for the Oscars
The ceremony is planned to be held a week before the Academy Awards in 2025, which is currently scheduled for March 2nd. The SAG Awards are often considered an indicator of success at the Oscars. This is due to a significant overlap in membership between SAG-AFTRA, the actors’ union, and the Academy’s actors branch.
Key Dates and Deadlines for the 31st Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards
The submissions for the SAG Awards officially begin on Monday, August 29, 2024, and will close on Friday, November 1, 2024. The nominations for voting, however, will be confirmed to be held on Monday, December 16, 2024, and will remain open until Sunday, January 5, 2025. SAG decided that January 8, 2025, will be the day when the nominations will be announced. Shortly after this, January 15 has been decided as the day for the final round of voting and will close on Friday, February 21. Finally, the 31st Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards will be live-streamed on Netflix on Sunday, February 23, 2025.
