Adobe Photoshop’s Object Selection Tool has now been improved to allow automatic and more accurate subject selections.
Adobe yesterday unveiled a slew of new features for Photoshop at its annual conference that is taking place in Los Angeles. From improvement in Selections to Hole-filling to addition of Share for Review, here are some key highlights:
Improvement to Selection
The Object Selection Tool, which allows users to select an object by hovering a cursor over it, has now been improved to allow more accurate and quality of the automatic subject selections. The tool is expanded to recognizing more complex objects and regions like sky, buildings, water, plants, different types of flooring and ground (e.g., mountains, sidewalks, streets).
“With these improvements, you can save time and get more precise and high-quality selections, all the while preserving hair details and edges,” Adobe Photoshop’s in charge of product management – Pam Clark – said in a blog.
One-Click Delete and Fill
Want to quickly remove unwanted elements in your image? This another cool update lets users delete undesirable images by just one click! “With one-click Delete and Fill, customers can easily remove an object from an image entirely by clicking on it to select and then pressing Shift+Delete. The removed area is automatically filled using content-aware fill… all in a single action,” the blog added.
Work with Illustrator artwork in Photoshop
Adding to the last year’s update, Adobe has improved interaction between the two programs and expanded it to include copy/paste of live, editable type from Illustrator to Photoshop. “Pasting live type as layers preserves type attributes such as font, font style, size, alignment, orientation, tracking, kerning, and color in Photoshop,” Adobe added.
Neural Filters
The new Photo Restoration Neural Filter that will use machine learning to make complex edits and transform an old, battered image in seconds. The filter will detect and delete scratches and other minor imperfections on old photographs.
Share for Review (Beta)
Adobe added a new feature called Share for Review, which is still in Beta stage, to incorporate stakeholders’ review feedback into the designs. Designer now can create a snapshot of their document and invite the client or stakeholder to comment on it. They can then see the reviewers’ comments in real time in a panel within Photoshop and address them. Further, designers can share links in any application that supports link sharing, while reviewers can see your document in any browser-based interface without needing an installed version of Photoshop, and having to sign up or sign in.
Photoshop on the iPad
The American multinational computer software company has updated the iPadOS version of Photoshop and introduced features like background removal, Content-Aware Fill, Auto Tone, one-tap Color, and Contrast.
One-tap Remove Background
With the view to enhance the editing experience for iPad customers, Adobe has now introduced the ability to remove the background using only a single tap. “Remove Background saves time by using Select Subject technology to quickly isolate the main subject from the background and automatically apply a layer mask. This allows you to take the subject and place it within other images, replace backgrounds with other scenes, and more,” Adobe said.
One-tap Content-Aware Fill
Want to eliminate distracting objects in the background? One-tap Content-Aware Fill is the answer. It lets the user remove unintended bystanders in the photos, clear out unwanted items and dust using Adobe’s AI technology that allows to fill any selection with content based on its surroundings.
