Samsung Galaxy S23 likely to launch in February 2023: Here’s what we know so far

The Samsung Galaxy S23 lineup is expected to feature the newest Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset.

South Korean tech giant Samsung will likely launch the Galaxy S23 series, which could comprise Galaxy S23, S23 Plus, and S23 Ultra smartphones, in February next year. According to the South Korean newspaper Korea JoongAng Daily, the new series is expected to launch at the Samsung Unpacked 2023 event that will be held in the U.S. and is claimed to cost more than its predecessor. Here’s what we know so far:

If we believe the rumors around the Samsung Galaxy S23 lineup, the smartphone will feature the newest Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset, which could further unlock features like a 200-megapixel camera, Wi-Fi 7, and a new 5G modem.

Earlier this month, a Twitter tipster, Ice Universe wrote about the chipset in the new series. The CPU’s prime core will have a frequency of 3.36GHz and the Adreno GPU will have a frequency of 719MHz, both improved from its predecessor.

    Samsung Galaxy S23 Tweet

One noteworthy aspect of the launch is its timing. The new Galaxy series will come at a time when demand for smartphones is weak on account of the global economic slowdown. Smartphone sales across the globe fell 11% on-year in the third quarter of 2022, according to an analyst at Hana Securities. Samsung witnessed a similar decline in phone sales last month, it added.

The effect of the same can be seen in the company’s third-quarter earnings where Samsung reported a worse-than-expected 32% drop in year-on-year profit. Further, higher inflation in most world economies could result in higher pricing of the series. Hence, the Galaxy S23 series is expected to be priced above the launch price of its predecessor Galaxy S22 at Rs 72,99 for the 8GB RAM and 128GB variant.
