South Korean tech major Samsung officially launched the Galaxy Watch6 series, consisting of the Galaxy Watch6 and Galaxy Watch6 Classic, at its bi-annual Galaxy Unpacked event held in Seoul today. These smartwatches aim to provide “personalized health guidance, purposeful design upgrades and an enhanced mobile experience for a more informed and healthier self,” all in a refined and sleek design.
Specifications
Both the Galaxy Watch6 and Galaxy Watch6 Classic feature a Sapphire Crystal Super AMOLED display and have an Always-on display feature. The smartwatches are powered by Samsung’s efficient Exynos W930 Dual-Core 1.4GHz processor, equipped with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage. The wearables run on Wear OS 4, powered by Samsung’s One UI Watch 5. Additionally, they offer various health-tracking capabilities, including sleep optimization with personalized insights, fitness tracking, fall detection, and more.
“Recognizing that better health begins with better sleep, Samsung is helping users optimize their night in the same way they optimize their day by focusing on three key elements of better sleep: understanding personal sleep patterns, building better habits and establishing a sleep-friendly environment,” the company said in a blog. The latest device offers an in-depth analysis of Sleep Score Factors, tracks Sleep Consistency, provides more individualized and detailed feedback about the user’s sleep, etc. Moreover, when it’s time for bed, the Galaxy Watch6 could activate Sleep Mode across the user’s watch and phone that will mute notifications, dim screens, and activate the invisible LED infrared sensor on the watch to deliver valuable health insights.
Apart from sleep monitoring, the company has introduced a new Personalized Heart Rate Zone feature on the Watch6 series that analyzes individual physical capabilities and defines five optimal running intensity levels to help users set their own goals based on their ability. Other features include Track Run records for tracking the user’s runs and Custom Workout to build and track personalized workout routines. The Galaxy Watch6 series also features Irregular Heart Rhythm Notification, skin temperature tracking during the night, Fall Detection, etc.
In terms of productivity, users can access WhatsApp, Google Calendar, Gmail, and more on the Watch6 series. Users can control the Galaxy Z Flip5 camera to switch modes and zoom with the help of the paired Watch6, all thanks to the device’s upgraded Camera Controller. The device seamlessly pairs with other Samsung devices like Galaxy Tab S9, Samsung Smart TV, etc. The Watch6 series can help users find their misplaced phones by pinpointing their location through Find My Phone with map support. User’s personal data on the smartwatch remains secure thanks to the Samsung Knox security platform.
