Tesla Cybertruck full volume production delayed to next year

Cybertruck is expected to be manufactured at Tesla’s Gigafactory in Austin, Texas.

Tesla head Elon Musk said at the company’s fourth-quarter earnings call that full-volume production of the much-awaited Cybertruck will not start before 2024. Tesla’s electric truck was unveiled in 2019 and has seen production delays several times since then.

“We do expect production to start sometime this summer, but I always kind of downplay the start of production because the start of production is always very slow,” Musk said; concluding that mass production will not begin until next year.

Tesla’s Gigafactory in Austin, Texas is expected to manufacture the Cybertruck that was originally supposed to start pre-production in 2021 but was delayed due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Reports then suggested that the mass production of the electric truck would begin by the end of 2023. Additionally, Musk later announced that Cybertruck is going to be more expensive than the originally planned price of $39,900, saying that “a lot has changed” since its unveiling.

On the other hand, despite a long wait, Tesla’s Semi trucks are on the road. The company delivered the first batch of heavy-duty Semi trucks to PepsiCo in December last year. In December 2017, when Semi was first unveiled, Pepsi ordered 100 trucks from the automaker. Tesla then estimated the shipping in 2019. However, due to delays, some because of the pandemic and supply chain problems, the shipment got postponed to 2021. It was later pushed to 2022.
