Tesla launches Wireless Charging Platform for $300: All details

Tesla will begin shipping the Wireless Charging Platform in February 2023.

Tesla has announced a Wireless Charging Platform for $300 that can charge up to three devices at the same time. The device is being compared with Apple’s AirPower wireless charging pad which never made its market debut.

“Inspired by the angular design and metallic styling of Cybertruck, our Wireless Charging Platform provides 15W of fast charging power per device for up to three devices simultaneously,” the company wrote on its website.

In terms of design, the device is sleek and is composed of the aluminum housing, a premium Alcantara surface, and a detachable magnetic stand. The stand helps to lay the charger flat or at an angle for better viewing.

Users can only charge devices that support Qi wireless charging technology. Further, Tesla’s Wireless Charging Platform features FreePower technology, which lets the users charge their phones or earbuds placed anywhere on the surface without precise alignment. This technology used by the Elon Musk-owned company appears to have taken its inspiration from Apple’s unreleased AirPower.

Apple announced AirPower, a wireless charging mat that could charge three devices simultaneously, during the launch of the iPhone 8 and iPhone X in 2017. The company officially dropped off AirPower due to technical difficulties in 2019.

Back to Tesla’s Wireless Charging Platform, the device will come with a USB-C cable integrated with a wireless charger, a 65W USB-C power adapter, and a magnetic detachable stand. It will begin shipping in February 2023.
