WhatsApp users might soon be able use their virtual avatars for video calls! In line with bringing new “avatars” features to its platform including Messenger and Instagram, Meta is working on a feature that will let the users switch to their digital avatars within the video call on WhatsApp.
WABetaInfo recently reported that the feature is currently available in the beta version for Android and shared a screenshot showing a new button that says ‘Switch to avatar’ that will allow users to switch from the live front camera feed to their animated avatars. However, the option is yet not usable as it is still under development.
The users will get a section “Avatar Editor” that will help them set up and customize their own avatar. Users will also be able to send avatar stickers. WhatsApp has been working on developing its own Memoji or Bitmoji competitor since March, reportedly.
At present, there is no timeline or release date for the feature, however, according to WABetaInfo, the feature which is available in the beta version for Android, might soon be available for iOS beta users.
Other than this, WhatsApp for iOS is testing a feature for users to be able to leave a group without letting others know along with a blur tool for desktop WhatsApp users.
