WhatsApp working to soon bring “Transfer Chats to iPhone” feature: Details

WhatsApp may soon let you transfer chats between iPhones without iCloud
The “Transfer Chats to iPhone” feature is currently available to some beta testers.

If you ever tried to transfer your WhatsApp chats from your old iPhone to a new one, you would be aware of how slow and frustrating the process can usually be! However, the good news is that the American social instant messaging company WhatsApp is working on a new feature that will let you transfer your WhatsApp chats on your iPhone without using iCloud.

According to WABetaInfo, WhatsApp beta for iOS 23.9.0.72 is introducing a feature called “Transfer Chats to iPhone” and as the name suggests the feature will let you transfer chats to another iPhone but without using iCloud. The feature is currently available to some beta testers and is expected to roll out to more people over the coming weeks.

In the screenshot shared by the organization, under the Chat subsection within WhatsApp Settings, we can see a new option called “Transfer Chats to iPhone”. While iCloud backup undoubtedly helps you keep your data safe in case you lose the device, the latest feature will be very advantageous to users who do not want to rely on iCloud storage to save chat history.

It is also useful to people who are unable to back up their chats due to the 5GB free storage limit and do not wish to pay for upgradation. With the “Transfer Chats to iPhone” feature, users can easily transfer their WhatsApp chats even if they exceed their iCloud storage. “This feature doesn’t rely on iCloud but it transfers the chat history privately using a built-in feature,” according to the report.

To use the feature, users need to first download WhatsApp on their new phone where they want their chat backup. Users then have to register with the same phone number on WhatsApp on their new device. After this, they need to use their old iPhone to scan the QR code shown on the new phone to transfer their WhatsApp chat history.

Elsewhere, in late April, WABetaInfo also reported that WhatsApp beta for Android 2.23.9.19 is bringing a similar feature that will let users migrate their WhatsApp chats history to another Android device without using Google Drive. This feature for Android smartphones is available to beta testers and is expected to roll out to more users over the coming weeks.
