Fans of the 2019 dark thriller “Joker” received a double dose of exciting news this week from Warner Bros. The studio unveiled the first official poster for the Joker 2, titled “Joker: Folie à Deux,” along with the announcement of a trailer release date set for April 9th. The movie is set to hit its theatrical debut from October 4th of 2024.
Joaquin Phoenix will reprise his role as Arthur Fleck in the upcoming film, which is shrouded in a bit of mystery due to its shift in genre. While the first film was a gritty character study of the Joker, “Folie à Deux” is described as a musical psychological thriller. This new direction is underscored by the casting of pop star Lady Gaga, whose portrays the role of the infamous Crown prince of crime Joker’s girlfriend and partner-in-crime Harley Quinn.
Variety reports that the Todd Phillips’ film will incorporate 15 songs and boasts a budget of a massive $200 million. The poster itself offers a tantalizing glimpse, featuring Phoenix’s Joker and Gaga’s Harley Quinn in a dance pose that hints at a potential twist in the film’s genre and the relationship between the two DC comics characters.
